Countdown to the 4th

June 5, 2022

Inspired by the Light the World calendar our church puts out every December, we present to you our “Countdown to the 4th” calendar. It’s a month filled with patriotic activities and discussions. The goal is to help get your families ready to celebrate Independence Day to the fullest.

We are huge believers that our country and its history should be discussed all year long–not just once a year. Sadly, studies show only about half of Americans know the real reason behind why we celebrate the 4th of July.

Our children don’t have to be part of that statistic. We can raise children who love our country despite its flaws, and who actively look for ways to improve it. For that to happen, it starts with frequent and ongoing conversations. So, in this month leading up to Independence Day, spend a few minutes every day teaching and engaging your kids in history, civics, and the land that we love.

For good measure, we’ve thrown in “weekly goals” and Sunday discussion topics. Mondays are devoted to American history. Tuesdays to learning about symbols and traditions. Wednesdays to actually doing something (rather than just discussing). Thursday’s prompts are related to elections. Fridays are for veteran appreciation. And Saturdays are for getting out and seeing our beautiful country. Combined, hopefully these activities and discussions will lead to an enriching countdown to the 4th.

Spread the patriotism! Let’s start a new tradition of monthlong learning and engagement leading up to Independence Day. Tag us in social media posts (@theAmericanmoms) and we’ll gladly feature you in our Instagram feed.

    Hello,
I have tried a couple of times to print the Countdown to the 4th. I am not able to resize it to fit on an 8×11 inch page.
I really would like to have a paper copy. Is there something I can try/do to get it to print correctly? Thank you =)

Hi Janet! There should be an option on your printer to “fit to page” that will make it print on an 8×11. If not, print it down to 50% size and it’ll fit perfectly. If not, I’m happy to resize it and email you a copy, if that’s easier. Let us know!
