If anyone knew how to do Texas barbecue right, it was Lady Bird Johnson. She and her husband, the 36th president of the United States, loved entertaining at their Johnson City, Texas ranch, where steak ruled the menu. Spareribs, fried chicken, and texmex classics were close behind. When they got to the White House, barbecue was on their menu so frequently, that the French chef they inherited from the Kennedy’s resigned– complaining too much BBQ would ruin his reputation!
So, if you’re looking for a classic Texas barbecue sauce– try this one from Lady Bird Johnson! It’s tangy, just the way the Johnson’s liked it.
